The current Manton Library is housed in a 100 year old building that has been used as the Library since 1933!
The small, 1,250 square foot space is in need of repair and updating, requiring new wiring, plumbing, heating
There is no space for a children’s area or for community members to come together for literacy classes, children’
s programming or genealogy research - all things expected in a modern library.
The Manton Library serves a large population - over 5,460 individuals from the City of Manton, and the Townships
of Cedar Creek, Colfax, Greenwood and Liberty. Even folks from Northern Missaukee County utilize the Manton
Library. During the 303 days per year it is open and average of 64 people per day use the current services - this
amounts to over 20,000 visits per year!
The proposed new 3,150 square foot facility will be built on the corner of Main and Business 131. This location
has easy access and plenty of parking. it is a short walk for students from Manton Schools and in a highly visible
location creating community spirit and pride.
