About Manton

Welcome to Manton Michigan – ‘Small Town… Big Heart’. A place where you can find year round recreational activities!

Manton lies within 3 miles of both the Pere Marquette State Forest to the north and the Manistee National Forest to the southwest. The relatively rural area abounds with deer, small game, and waterfowl. The spring time offers morel mushrooms and fall gives beautiful colors to view.

Below are a few things that make Manton a great place to enjoy:

  • Lakes & Rivers – Lake Billings is nestled in the City of Manton and provides fishing, swimming beaches, boating, canoeing and campgrounds. Lake Billings Park has both primitive sites for tent campers and non-primitive sites for those who rough it in RVs and motor homes. There are several local streams feeding the Manistee River system, which crosses US-131 approximately 6 miles north of Manton. There are state campgrounds on the Manistee River, with tubing, canoeing and wildlife watching.

  • The Manton Pathway – is located 1/4 mile north of US-131 and M-42 intersection, Then west on Cedar St. next to the Dairy Bar. The Manton Pathway and Garden is a 1-1/2 mile nature walk. You will see anything from birds to small animals. There are bridges to cross and benches staggered along the trails. Manton Pathway and Gardens is open year round Monday- Sunday 8:00 am to 8:00pm. Admission is Free.

  • Snowmobiling and Cross Country Skiing – It is not an exaggeration to say that you can snowmobile and ski right outside your back door. Snowmobile trails crisscross Wexford County throughout the City of Manton. The City has designated trails for safe passage. The snowmobile trail just north of Manton is easy to get to. The trail follows all the way to the Mackinac Bridge, and has some of the most scenic views in the state. Snowmobile Trail maps are available at www.michiweb.com/snowmobile/maps.

  • Sports Activities – Addition to the hunting, fishing, snow sports and river activities, the community offers tennis courts and summer basketball. We also have one of finest 18 hole golf courses in the state.
